Discography

Spinal discs are the cushions between the vertebrae (bones) of the spine. The discs are made of cartilage, and in some cases, are responsible for causing pain in the neck or low back. This pain can radiate into the arms or legs. A discography is a diagnostic tool that can identify damage to a spinal disc and allows your doctor to determine if the disc is the cause of pain. The procedure takes approximately 30-45 minutes and is performed in the office. Using x-ray guidance, a needle is directed into the disc and a small amount of contrast dye is then injected. This allows your doctor to examine the disc for signs of damage. During the injection, you will be asked to notify your doctor if you experience pain that is similar to the pain you have been experiencing on a daily basis. The results of the procedure will allow your doctor to direct future treatments.
